We are pleased to announce the launch of the official website of the Japan–India Global Education and Research Center (JIGER) at Shimane University. JIGER is a strategic center established in January 2026 to promote the integrated development of education, research, and human resource development, building upon the long-standing academic partnerships between Shimane University and universities and research institutions in India.
The Center’s initiatives are carried out as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) FY2025 “Inter-University Exchange Project: Support for the Formation of Inter-University Exchanges with Countries in the Global South (Type I: India).” Through reciprocal student exchanges between Japan and India, the promotion of joint research, the development of structured educational programs, and the effective use of hybrid and online learning, JIGER is committed to fostering highly skilled professionals equipped with both academic expertise and global competence.
In regions facing population decline and structural economic change, strengthening international knowledge exchange and collaboration is essential. Through close partnerships with local industries and municipalities, JIGER seeks to cultivate individuals who are rooted in the region yet capable of thriving globally, and to establish a new model for regional development—the “Shimane Model”—that enhances international competitiveness and advances sustainable regional revitalization.
Through this website, we will share information on our mission, programs, events, and achievements. We sincerely appreciate your continued support as JIGER continues to grow into a sustainable platform connecting the region and the world.
